I didn’t think it worked and told my dr, so he ordered abdominal X-rays. Well, I was right. I’m still moderately constipated after all that.
The dr wants me to take MiraLAX every day plus add a prescription laxative for a while and report to him how it’s going.
Just my luck! Anyone else have a bowel prep/purge fail???

I had a success with Dolcate and senna. It’s really hard for me to poop after my appendix removal so I use this combination also called a mush and push lol

Senna makes me vomit uncontrollably so I can’t try that. But it’s good to know something worked!

The best drug I ever used for constipation was Bisacodyl. Works really well.

Sometimes I’ve gotten constipated, but not longer than 4-5 days without bowel movement. Last time I used a natural laxative I got at a health shop which worked well.
I read somewhere that it’s not a good idea to use laxatives on a regular basis, should not be used for more than a week consecutively because it causes fatigue in the bowel muscles.

I don’t use laxative normally. I use a stool softener called MiraLAX from time to time. I’m taking a laxative now under the guidance of my gastroenterologist so I’m guessing it’s ok to do that.

This is the reason it was not recommended to take Bisacodyl for more than a week. Common wisdom from doctors was that you could get dependent on it and then your colon would not be able to work without it. New research challenges that it’s ‘addictive’ and that you can become dependent on it and now some people can be on Bisacodyl for years and it’s not addictive and you won’t get dependent on it. I don’t know if this is true for all similar laxatives. Long term use of it is still being studied to see if it’s safe to take regularly.
