Thinking of switching anti-psychotic

I was on Geodon, it’s a great med. I lost 70 pounds on it. Put it all back on Invega though.

As far as sleep goes it slowly comes back. The fist six weeks off olanzapine is the worst. I had daily headaches, slept 1 hour at a time, woke frequently. I still wake up in the middle of the night. I can sleep about 3 hours at a time now. Clonidine allows me naps a couple times a day. I am on latuda, and my anxiety seems controlled and paranoia less frequent than when I was on olanzapine. Voices are minimal. I take 40mg of latuda, started at 20mg. I did 6 weeks of consistently tapering from 20 mg of olanzapine. It can really feel like it won’t end, then you start to feel better. Headaches and sleeping a little at a time and yawning constantly for about a month. Had a cold last 2 weeks, but no more headaches. So glad! You just got to stick it out. I took the olanzapine for 2 years. I also take prozac 80mg.

This is it. Im on Haloperidol and its considered weight neutral, and I know folks who lose weight on it. Im still undecided, perhaps need to give more time?

Abilify perhaps?

Latuda is a less heavy drug. I tried it briefly. Got more emotions and feelings on it. Anyway I had to quit it just after 2 weeks or so because it gave me pain in the chest. For me personally I doubt I can find something to replace zyprexa, although I only tried 3 other AP’s. But those I tried were the ones that were likely to give less side effects than zyprexa. Abilify, Latuda and seroquel.

Geodon is the most weight neutral according to a meta analysis on 32 antipsychotics. But still it gains you weight, best is cobenfy with mounjaro or something else you will gain weight regardless of what you do

I’m on 3 that does’nt make you want to eat all day long.

Those are Clopixol and low dose Seroquel and Solian.

I order a UFO pizza every day from the locale pizza restaurant and that’s the only meal I eat each day.

Most 1. Gen. Antipsychotics are just as strong as Zyprexa for psychosis and causes less weight gain. Look into the old cards maybe you’ll find the perfect fit there.

Geodon made food taste like ■■■■. I was on that drug for 19 years and skinny all the time. Now I’m a little bit fat but at least I can enjoy my food now.

Never had that problem. That’s strange.

You know I had to force myself to eat 500 kcal twice daily to make it work. I hated to eat on that drug. It’s a down side that you must keep great amounts of fatty foods home to make it work and that you must force yourself to eat. Besides it made me insomnic so that I was awake for 38 hours before I slept for 11 hours. I was always very thin on that drug. And when I turkeyed that drug after being on that for 19 years 3 years past with little sleep.. sleep and appetite was restored years after.

Yeah the 500 kcal was annoying. Food still was good but I ate way less.

I’m on generic prolixin and lost all my weight on this med…might give it a whirl.

Yes prolexin is a very powerful and slimming 1. Gen antipsychotic. I’ve only been told good things about that meds.

Yes Haldol is one of the very good 1. Gen antipsychotics. And you can choose between long acting injection and pills. The most important meds I’m on is Haldol’s sibling-meds Clopixol depot. This fixed many problems of mine. I’ve had that injection for 29 years.

I had the best success with Amisulpride (Solian) which worked great for 5 years. Since early 2025 and Clozapine was not viable, Ive been on Haloperidol. I cant say Im having lots of relief, but Ive just gone up to 5mg the last few days, and its kicking my arse with muscle stiffness and slowing me down :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m still on caplyta 2Wayne. It’s pretty good so far.
