Thinking of switching to Latuda

I’ve done some research and I am considering asking my doctor to switch me from Olanzapine to Latuda. Latuda seems to be the best AP when it comes to appetite and supposedly its QT prolongnation/abnormal heart rythm effect is also low. Has anyone taken Latuda before? Good or bad results?

I know very little about it, sorry. Once my initial stint with haldol and invega was over , I always stuck with partial dopamine agonists. THey seem to be the ones that have the least negative effect on my quality of life.

It’s okay Bowens. Im sure there is at least a couple of forum members that have tried Latuda and can share (only if they are comfortable) their experiences.

What med are you on now?

Abilify Maintena injection. Before that Vraylar.

I also read that Vraylar is pretty good for appetite and heart health compared to Olanzapine. How was your experience with Vraylar?

It was good. THought it helped with negatives in the beginning. Getting off it was my own stupid mistake. Getting off caused my last break.

I took latuda for a year. No side effects. Non sedating. No tachycardia. No akathasia. I still had voices though and I was complaining to my doctor so he switched my meds. I have voices on all meds. I felt the same on latuda as geodon which I’m currently on. I had mild voices on latuda but because I didn’t tell my doctor he was obsessed with switching my meds. I didn’t know how to articulate the nuances of my symptoms back then. If you don’t know how to explain nuances to your doctor they do catastrophic planning for you. So yeah. Latuda was a good drug in my book I’ve read people on here say it’s bad but they might of been episodic at the time and not given latuda enough time. I’ve read people on here still have symptoms with drugs and switch after a few months. Ugh, you always have some symptoms. You could be in an episode. I don’t think any med. helps when you’re deep in an episode. I guess if they say it helps then it helps.

Thanks for reply @2Waynez Only thing im worried about is if I switch from Olanzapine to Latuda is that I wont be able to fall asleep.

You see Olanzapine and Seroquel are especially good if you are having some kind of Insomnia or very heavy positive symptoms caused by your condition if not it should be quite easy to switch to Latuda.

And the bonus is weight loss.:+1:

I took Latuda for six months or so. Basically it really chronically elevated body temperature and even though it was a cold season I was dressing lightly because of this. I came off of it because I got severe anhedonia and crying spells from it down the line. But in the beginning I assumed it could be pro-cognitive and light on side-effects, no such luck. There was a hassle with the fact you need to take it with food and for me it was pretty sedative as well, knockout even. Overslept on it, 12 hours at a time. And one time got severe akathisia from it. One time in confused state wandered my apartment half-asleep just out of it. But, these drugs are a crap shoot, random effects with no method to this madness, with drugs that is. :pill:

I am currently on lurasidone which is the generic for latuda. I really like it. It puts me to sleep at night and doesn’t raise my appetite. It stops the voices and delusions for me really well also.

I took Latuda for a few years. It was good. Went off it when my psych suddenly retired and I didn’t have it for awhile and was not doing well. But I think the stuff was good. Taking with food is bullsh*t thought. Just like Austedo for TD

i took latuda for about 5 years and it was the best med ive ever been on, it doesnt cause weight gain i had 6pack abs on it, and i was working part time jobs while on it. the only annoying part about the med is you have to take it with 350 calories of food everyday.

i highly recommend it :).

I was on the max dose of Latuda for years. It helped, but it made me a little sleepy at night. Not bad, though. Now I’m on just Vraylar.

I took it for a little while, a few months…i couldn’t take in enough calories and my pdoc stopped it cuz of that…it was an okay med, but not as good as clozapine.
