Two polls for input - Getting a feel for how we can improve - anonymous polls

I am often looking for ways to make this forum better, so I would like some member input.

How are we doing managing and moderating this forum?
  • Doing great
  • About the same as the old forum
  • Could use some improvement

If we could use some improvement please specify where you feel we could do better. I know this somewhat defeats the purpose of an anonymous poll, but without input we cant look at areas to we should address.

Would you be in favor of an “adults only area”
  • Yes
  • No
  • Don’t care

This would be primarily for adding a category only established members had access too for more detailed sex related and adult stuff so we don’t have to violate the PG-13 on the public forum. There have been some suggestions that this would be a good idea. I’m not sure that is really necessary on a schizophrenia support forum, but I want to know what YOU think. If we went this route we would have to have some kind of warning in the rules and title of the category.

There are communities all over the internet for different groups and subgroups.

Talking about my kinks here would seem inappropriate, and there are other communities for that.

Same with religion and politics.

I feel like there’s an attitude that this forum, and the old one to be fair, has to be a one size fits all approach for every internet need, but that would turn this place into a mess.

Community, kinship, shared struggles, and support are the point of a support forum. Add in a little laughs and conversation.

That’s my two cents.

Edit to add: there’s also something to be said that if I don’t like a sub-forum I can simply not go there. We all have the choice to not engage with topics and categories we don’t like.

I tend to agree. And the 2nd poll seems to reflect that view so far.

Maybe I’m just prude….

But I also don’t see the need to discuss kinks or more than PG-13 things here.

Not many 13 year old szs out there, are there?

Perhaps, make it adults only?

I thought it was adults only, when did that change? I think we should have a few questions at sign up like what’s your age, do you have a mental illness with psychosis? are you looking for support? I have seen these on Facebook group sign ups to join certain groups, can we do that?

Probably not at 13, but we had one at 16 on the old forum for awhile

They had a requirement of 16 on the old forum, I believe. We have never set an age requirement here. The only requirements we have set are that you need to have a psychotic disorder or have had psychosis.

I don’t have any way of setting these questions up on the forum sign up. The forum sign up page is outside of my control. Its a standard discourse sign up.

As for those that are voting needs improvement, thats fine and all, but if you dont clue us in to where you believe we need improvement, we cant make any changes to improve whatever you are dissatisfied with.

So, please if you vote that way, clue us in.

I agree with some of the other members

There’s no need for an adults only category

For what it’s worth I voted don’t care. Simplicity is best though. Too much complexity in the forum turns it into a swamp.

I agree. I think based on the poll so far and my own thoughts, I think we can just close out the second poll. Its pretty clear how members feel about it. I will leave the first poll open though.

16yrs old is an adult here in the uk

In the US its usually 18 for most things and 21 for others. But it varies from state to state, I believe.

a person can have kids here at 16, they are termed young adults. I think these days the way that sex education is taught at school then the majority of 16-21 yr olds won’t be fazed be anything like that, is it an unlikely event that we will have anyone under 16 coming here? and Is childhood psychosis a rare event?

Having a diagnosis of schizophrenia at 16 is probably a rare event. I don’t have the stats on younger peoples with psychosis, but I would think it would be higher. Sorry, not really an expert.

The other thing that people should keep in mind is that the public portion of this forum can be viewed without membership of any kind. So we cant really keep younger people out of the non-private sections.

I don’t think under 16s would ever come here tbh or look,
also, I know 2 women who had a kid at 13/14 so they are not as innocent as you might think sometimes.

I was too wrapped up in school and all that jazz at that age, I’d have no reason whatsoever to type in schizophrenia support forums, I’d probably play video games or watch anime.
