Will diet soda really

Really prevent me from getting diabetes?

There’s much more to it than just switching to diet pop

Will it help at least?

Diet soda is extremely unhealthy regardless of the diabetes risk.

With that said I’ll have the occasional Diet Coke whenever I go out to a restaurant

But this is not done frequently

Some people say it still affects your body systems in such a way that it does not help diabetes. But, most nutritionists say the switch is a good thing to do

I drink 80 oz of Dr Pepper a day

Time to cut down big time. Try water with fresh fruit or mint in it

What about the sparkling ice zero sugar?

In general, too much soda of any kind is not good for you but diet soda is better for you than regular. Regular soda has a lot of sugar which makes you gain weight and that puts you at risk for diabetes. It also is bad for your teeth though diet soda is bad for your teeth too.

I wouldn’t say extremely unhealthy, I think the jury is still out on whether diet soda is unhealthy. Too much is bad for you but in moderation some places still say it’s OK.

I think some believe that the aspertame often found as a sugar substitute in the drink may cause cancer, but no one has been able to prove it as far as I know.

I think coca cola changed their sugar substitute shortly, but then sales dropped, and they reintroduced aspartame pretty quick. Money talks.

@Mr_Hope the main study I know of was on mice. They were given an extremely high amount of aspartame as their only source of food during the course of the study. No human will ever consume that much aspartame in a daily diet. Well, comparing their calorie intake per body weight compared to the amount the mice were given for their body weight. It was a ridiculous study. There may be more since then that’s from back when I was in college, but it was totally useless information because we’re never going to consume that much per day and we eat other foods as well. The mice were given no other source of nutrition.

I know it’s super hard to break a habit @Rainstorm ,but sometimes it’s the only sensible thing to do.

I have mostly only been able to drink tap water the last 3 years because of stomach issues. I could choose to drink other things, but then I get ill, at least if I do it regularly.

The difference from your predicament is that I feel the effect of making the wrong choice pretty quick, while developing diabetes kind of sneaks up on you. But we both need to make changes to stay healthy, before it’s too late.
