If I am able to get the doctor’s okay at my follow-up, my husband said I could get a small dog. I’m thinking Pomeranian or Bichon Frise. They are both high-maintenance, but that doesn’t bother me. I just want a TV buddy who will chill with me on the couch. I miss my old dog; her constant presence was so soothing. We do have other dogs, but they are my husband’s dogs. He raised them, and so naturally, they took to him. This would be a dog adopted as an adult, so I don’t have to deal with puppy-ness (I don’t do well with puppies- too bitey!). I want an older dog that is calmer and settled, preferably leash trained and housetrained, but if not, we’ll work on it. But I’m very excited and this gives me something to look forward to. Yay!!!
Get a dog from a rescue that has foster homes because they’ll be able to give you the lowdown on the dogs personality and training. You’ll be able to get a snuggle bug doggie that way who is also potty trained.
well great…I hope you like your new dog.
Dogs are awesome and their part of the family at least for me they are my parents and I have two little dogs one is a pug /dachshund and the other is a terrier mix of some sort of the pug/dachshund is a hand full and very demanding but when she is sweet she is a cuddle bug and loves snuggles with me her favorite person in her world I can’t leave her sight for one minute and she is crying after me I can’t even go to the bathroom without her following me at times my other dog does too but not as clingy as the pug also they sleep in bed with me tell me they’re not spoiled rotten and loved so much. I love all animals really, but I am mostly a dog person more than any other animal. Hope you find the perfect dog and companion for you that is low key and chill and will be a couch potato and your fur baby will love you forever or as long as they live and as long as you live my two girls are seniors my pug/weenie is 13 years old we got her when she was 1 and a half and my terrier mix we call uggie bug is 16 or close to that she was 4 when we adopted her from an animal shelter close to us.
Owning a dog is a big responsibility but they are worth while.
My Mini Frenchie is a snuggle bug.
He loves to cuddle with me on the couch.
But don’t get me wrong they are not toys.
They require a lot of work and Vet bills and supplies are not cheap
Isn’t that the truth! I’m checking into pet insurance and regular vet costs, savings for emergencies, special food for small breeds (especially prescription dental for Bichons!), and generally trying to research the cost and time that I need to be prepared to devote to a dog to keep it happy and healthy. I am hoping that I will find the right dog for me.
Good luck with everything @Honeysuckle
Dogs are great!
Pomeranians are a good idea. I had one before. They’re very energetic and cheerful.
I found a dog! It wasn’t the breed I first had in mind, but she is a little older (5), well trained, well socialized, and and all-around great sounding dog. I can’t want to meet her next month!
I get to pick the name. Mrs. Pickles.
My dog changed my life for the better
We take care of each other
He was 4 months old when I got him
Great!!’ So what breed is it?
Groenendael!!!
I love herding dogs! They are so attentive to their owners, and they are velcro dogs. I want a dog that wants to stick by me all the time and wants to train. I love training with dogs. I’ve always wanted to try (sorry for the misspelling) trieball. It’s “urban herding” where the dog herds big balls around instead of sheep. I even have a place near me that offers it! So that would be fun for both me and the dog. Still no clue on names (Sorry @sweetpotatopie- it’s a girl, not a guy! Otherwise, I like it.
I once had a cat names Mr. Sparkles!). I’m thinking of mythological names, like Pooka. Still stuck on what to pick, though. I don’t even have a list going.
Cats are better. Someone has to say this. Often.
