A question for users of L-theanine . .

On a scale from one to ten, what would you personally consider the overall effectiveness of L-theanine to be?

I am thinking about starting it in pill form in a few weeks time.

Another thing that I want to ask is if the feeling that you get from taking L-theanine over the course of many months constant or did you develop a resistance to the substance?

I take L-theanine and here’s what I know

  1. The quality between brands varies. The best brand I’ve used (and still use) is “doctor’s best suntheanine”. I tried “doctor’s best alphawave” and that didn’t work out.
  2. I take 900mg a day
  3. It keeps Abilify anxiety at bay
  4. The effect lessens after a while but certainly doesn’t drop to zero.

BTW, I’ve read yesterday that L-theanine has a short half-life although some effects might last for as long as 8 hours. I would assume that it also depends on the dosage and if you’re taking it with anything else.

Can it’s effectiveness be influenced by the addition of any other supplements?

Maybe it needs to be taken in intervals and during times before we know that our anxiety will peak. Therefore, a tolerance won’t be built up over time or may take longer to do so.

L-theanine promotes calmness so that’s definitely why you have calmer days whilst taking L-theanine even when taking it with caffeine. Don’t some brands of L-theanine pills contain caffeine in them?

What does L-theanine supplement do?

Some studies suggest l-theanine may increase alpha waves in the brain associated with relaxation and selective attention, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve sleep quality, though findings are often inconsistent. Potential neuroprotective and anti-seizure effects have also been reported in animal models.
