That’s why I abandoned eastern studies because they’re too pessimistic starting from the central premise that life is suffering. It’s easy to look through the lens of everything is suffering the more you read books and study eastern philosophy. I eat food I enjoy, go get a frozen coffee I enjoy, go for a ride I enjoy, read philosophy books I enjoy. Schopenhauer said we have a will that craves desire constantly and we pursue it so we suffer. Without critical thought one could adopt this philosophy. But I know from experience me and a million other people don’t feel like doing anything and doing stuff you feel like you have to suffer through it until it becomes habit or you adopt a meaning where you find purpose in your doings. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You make beautiful music. Focus on your positives. We all have an inner critic that judges what we do built in our psyche. Maybe meditate and practice thankfulness. I wish you well.
Thanks man..I appreciate that…I think i was just over reacting to BS. Gotta try to actually practice mindfulness more.
I follow a school of Buddhism that rejects the "all is suffering " belief. Thich nhat hahn teaches interbeing and clear sight through mindfulness. He does teach that suffering is inevitable but its obviously not all there is and that you cant reduce everything down to a form of suffering. I think this was in the first 2-3 chapters of his book on deep Buddhism.
From how I understand it ..and I could be wrong.. ..its more about being mindful and embracing suffering and knowing how to deal with it.
He does make the argument that without suffering joy would not be possible (no mud ..no lotus) but on its face we experience real joy and peace in life.
Thinking back on the book his exact words were:
Why would you follow a teaching that teaches eternal death and suffering. Life and death are still caught in incomplete notions like being and non being. He belives (if I understand) that the true nature of reality goes beyond both being and non being.
Idk if I agree but bro… that false belief about everything being suffering is legit depressing.
Im not the smartest guy on the forum but I have one marble and its enough to at least evaluate the reality of some claims including the claim all is suffering.
I experience peace ..joy …happiness..meaning and a sense of belonging value and goodness on the regular lol
Long story short.all is not suffering and noy all eastern teachers teach this
