I am afraid of permanent td. I am on 8mg risperidone again recently. It has high td risk. I was was on 6mg before but was on 8mg 10 months ago and had muscle twitches in my face which disappeared after dropping to 6mg. I read its an early td symptom. 8mg has similar td risk to Haldol 20-30℅ over 10 years, its already been 6 years on risperidone.
After how much time did you get td and what med and dosage?
My family is telling me having td is nothing compared to dangers of psychosis
I developed severe TD after 3 years on 100mg of Loxapine. Instead of taking me off the medication my pdoc prescribed Ingrezza to help. Which it did not help. I finally got off Loxapine fully last April(2025) I’ve been off it for a year and my hand is still disabled(It caused muscle spasms in my left hand impeding on my grip strength and dexterity). I still take Ingrezza, but I am disapointed I haven’t noticed much of an improvement in my hands, the facial twitches and tongue movements did start to improve though. I’ve seen probably 50% progress there
Well I stayed on Geodon. Because i was taking a combo of low dose Geodon and high dose Loxapine. So when I came off Loxapine we raised my Geodon to a therapeutic level
Yes Geodon has low td risk. My dr doesn’t want to prescribe it because its not as effective as my risperidone and because it needs to be taken twice a day with 500 cal.
Yeah Geodon isn’t as strong as like Zyprexa or Risperidone, but at a high dose (80am and 80pm) it controls my symptoms well. I can’t take Risperidone because of elevated prolactin levels
I get worried about this condition too because I take 5mg haloperidol and wonder if it’s going to cause it in future. At my outpatients Dept I sometimes see an elderly lady there with it, how her mouth makes involuntary movements and i felt so sorry for her that she couldn’t control it. I’d hate to be in that position
