I just read an article that says NFL football players are four times more likely to develop ALS than the general population. Obviously I never played in the NFL, but I’ve had a lot of concussions throughout the years. Caused by 4 years of high school football, ATV accident, skiing accident and gym class collision.
I’m kind of worried that I’m going to develop ALS at some point from all my brain injuries. ALS would be a terrible way to die.
NFL players obviously played football longer then I have. Most of them probably started playing at ages 7 or 8 and then retired in their 30’s, so many have played 20 plus years of football.
I am a big hypochondriac I will admit. If I was right on every disease I thought I had or was going to eventually have, I would of died a long time ago.
I never stayed up all night after any of my concussions. Though I think right after you have a concussion, you should try to stay awake. But if you have a concussion at 2 Pm, I think it’s fine to go to bed at 10 Pm. I’m no doctor though.
I am also a bit concerned about health because I have diabetes and need to watch things a bit. BUt at the moment, I am more concerned about brain health because I have been so forgetful lately.
Of course the two are kind of linked in some ways.
Well the good news is that you’re too young for alzheimer’s or dementia. I think based off your posts, your memory might be poor because you aren’t sleeping great because of Skye. As she gets older, she will keep you awake less and less.
I frequently have health anxiety and end up at the ER or doctors office to have my symptoms addressed. I don’t like the ER cuz they see my psych history and meds and then they downplay my physical symptoms as “stress”. I KNOW my body and when something is wrong with it but they gaslight me all the time.
Hey friends. I have a very similar disease that mimics ALS, and it feels like your body is declining fast and then getting better and declining (and repeat).
ALS is frustrating and difficult. Even with my condition which is neurodegenerative, you know that your body is never going to be the same again. Most cases of ALS is sporadic (happens randomly), but honestly it destroys you so much because your arms and legs don’t move the same anymore. But I have a very supportive friends and my spiritual family at church who help me to get by during the day. I just walk a little bit drunk at times lol.
I’m always worried about my health. Always. I worry that I will progress further in my 30s. But I have decided to not worry about it. Things will be ok, and I will get by.
