Anyone with GI discomfort from Antipsychotics?

This is starting to become more of an issue lately. My bowel movements have been fluctuating a lot, usually on the go side. I also get stomach discomfort from needing to go. Some days it’ll be constipation, but often it’s diarrhea. And this is a problem at work because I need to go a lot.

If it’s IBS then I need to tell a doctor and document my issues I’ve had most of my life, but now worse since starting Invega Sustenna.

I’m on 60mg of Haldol, Invega, Caplyta 42mg, Lithium 1200mg, Prozac 80mg, and Hydroxyzine 200mg. Oh and I just started a haldol dec

Not gastro-intestinal but gastro-esophageal… on invega my bowel movements were perfect, I was on it for 6 years or something… never had a hard poo… on Rexulti I had ocassional constipation, but it really messed up my stomach and esophagus. Things have improved but I really have to eat perfectly to have zero symptoms/ flareups

On clozapine i have pretty regular constipation (I’m also on Mounjaro)…I pretty much do a colonoscopy prep by taking a whole bottle of Miralax if I haven’t gone poop in 4-5 days. On Cobenfy i had the opposite issue, regular diarrhea and nausea/vomiting.

Wow, what a coincidence that we’re on similar medication treatments.

Yes, I have some esophagus issues too.

Clozaril doesn’t sound fun.

Maybe indirectly. I think I’m suffering from subconcious stress, probably brought on by the AP. I am unable to go at work. I can pee, but never poo. Same issue when I am outside my home really. I can’t seem to fix it.

Sorry to hear that… do you mind sharing exactly what youre going through with that, Ive learned some ways to manage it over the years.

Yeah, sure thing! Mostly feels like food gets stuck in the throat and I have to cough it out. Usually worsens with seasonal allergies. But also acid reflux and food coming back up. If this isn’t escophagus, then my bad.

Yeah, that’ s esophagus, Common issues on psych meds. For the swallowing you got to develop a strict habit of takeing a sip of water when swallowing, but not much because water and food can enter your windpipe easier, rather than getting stuck. For the reflux its true if you eat a ‘perfect’ diet it is barely existent. The reflux diet is pretty bland and the quantities you can eat and drink are small, but it can be a lot better than constant reflux.

I don’t eat much usually, but have bad bad habits like eating in the middle of the night and eating too much sugar, not a gargantuan amount, but still like too many little snacks that add up. Other than that, I don’t drink sugar, I eat a high protein high fiber diet, and I don’t overeat at meals.

Yet, I still struggle. I have found water helps. Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it.
