Change in auditory hallucination type?

Has anyone ever experienced a change in auditory hallucinations type? I’ve had command hallucinations for over 10 years now, and now I’m having hallucinations where I hear someone talking to me, but I can’t make out what’s he’s saying. It’s the same guy though. So it’s good in the sense that it’s not nearly as distressing. B/c the last command hallucinations I experienced not too long ago were so bad they drove me to banging my head against the wall. I looked it up, and auditory hallucinations can be experienced as indistinct words.

I’d just like to hear if anyone else has ever experienced this or has some specific info b/c I’m worried that I’m just imagining things. Thanks everybody!

Yes, I have auditory hallucinations. You may not be imagining them, but that doesn’t mean they’re technically real. Studies show that when someone experiencing psychosis hears voices, the same areas of the brain that process voices that are real light up.

I hope you find some relief here this website is a great place for support from like minded people.

My voices changed the other way. They went from whispers to now easy to hear full blown conversations

Even though they changed the other way, it’s still a change. Affirmation of what’s happening. Thanks!

Saw Dr today. She didn’t say this couldn’t happen. So I’m assuming that means she thinks it’s possible. I’m staying on the same meds though, which I’m ok with. These voices are more annoying than distressing.

My pdoc keeps asking me about my voices. But thats part of the appt. I hear tgem evetyday. Some like to whisper.

I go to the Dr Friday for mine

Roxanna, you still hear them with meds?

I go back to the doc in two weeks. She may switch me from Thorazine to abilify if I’m still having voices. I don’t see the big deal with having voices if they’re not very distressing though. If they’re just annoying. I’ve been on so many atypicals before though, including abilify, and none of them have been effective except for clozaril. And that sedated me so bad I was peeing the bed almost every night and didn’t have a life. I’m just not excited about the switch.

Yeah. When i do hear them in the day i take a prn of perphenazine. Does any of your meds help you?

Yes. The Thorazine is really helping A LOT. I take it 3x/day, 150 mg. I’m supposed to take 50 mg prn when I do hear them. But if that does start happening a lot again, I don’t want to be taking meds all the time if they’re just annoying voices, and I can handle them. If they’re not commanding hallucinations that are extremely distressing.
