here in bed suffering, watching videos. my akathisia is making me want to down my meds to relieve myself from this torment, lol. but i will be ok. ill find a way.
I had akathasia for 10 years before I started geodon. The benztropine didn’t touch it. I had restless leg half the night every night. I should of pushed a change in meds. I was on the lowest benztropine dose. I found that out when I got off benztropine. I’m on geodon and caplyta. I have no side effects just some slight tachycardia.
thanks for your input. that sounds like pure dread! really sorry to hear wayne. i think my im going to talk to my dr on the 20th, maybe i can get put on benzotropine
It’s horrible
I had it on two meds
It went away when I changed medicine but I know that’s very disruptive
Ugh! I hate akithisia! I had it with a couple meds. Fortunately, for me, higher dose benztropine helped a lot. Low dose benztropine didn’t touch it though. I hope you can get some relief soon. Akithisia is the worst!
i can usually handle it, but today was insane, felt like i was standing on hot lava rocks.
thank you, im spreading my doses out throughout the day. usually im ok, but i didnt eat before taking my meds so it hit me harder and faster than normal. i got a few ideas on what i can do differently.
Ok. Well I hope your ideas work. I’m glad some things help
I found it gets so intolerable it’s literally chemical torture
Changing meds was necessary rather than a choice
I had it bad back in the early days. It’s mostly gone now though I do get a bit restless sometimes.
well, i hope so too. i dont have much faith but the doctor might not want to lower my dose yet. ill let them know about benzetropine. i would go to walk in but they are closed on the weekend, so i have to sit this through until wednesday.
yeah, i can understand why it makes some people violent.
Try going for walks. It’s especially helpful to walk in nature for the calming sense it gives. Wednesday can’t come soon enough!
I’ve taken benzetropine for years it’s a great med. My friend has akathisia from his SZ meds and takes it. It will make your mouth dry though so drink lots of water
yeah, for real! on top that im going thru nicotine withdrawals, this week cant get interesting enuf.
@Mars thank you for the heads up. i hope it doesnt make me anymore groggy than i alright feel with all these meds. but if it does, oh well …
is it true it gives you blurry vision?
Yeah but it was temporary once you adjust to it it should go away.
Doesn’t make me groggy either so hopefully it won’t for you.
I had akathisia on Latuda couldnt sleep, benztropine did not help. What helped was switching to risperidone
im glad. well, i can only hope and pray for the best. hopefully tonight isnt too bad.
@D3VOUR im sorry to here. i take invega sustenna and seroquel so im always doped out i cant imagine going thru this and changing a med that helps. i hope this doesnt happen, i have treatment resistant schizophrenia
I took amantadine for akathisia for a couple years when I was on abilify in the beginning. It seemed to help. Eventually I just didn’t need it anymore, even still taking abilify. I ended up on 20mg of abilify eventually and didn’t need it anymore. Though it is a dopamine agonist, so may not be best for every situation. Usually they try to prescribe Mirtazapine, but im allergic. Benztropine dries my throat and gives swallowing issues, so amantadine was a last resort I guess. Plus no benzodiazapines were allowed to be prescribed to any patients. And propranolol made my heart rate dip too low, so that wasn’t an option either. But if you’re on something that works, that may be an option as a last resort?
