Frustrated by the lack of appreciation for how difficult living with this disease is

It’s an extremely heterogeneous illness so some of us are having a harder time than others, still, I feel like working or accomplishing anything with this illness is incredibly difficult. Something I really want is to feel that some truly understands how difficult/ painful this has been. Being perceived as lazy when you’re going through this is just adding insult to injury.

I’m proud of all dealing with this illness. And dignity to all that have.

I think severe sz/OCD and other mh illnesses are easily some of the most difficult psychological conditions humans face.

My life wasn’t a bed of roses before sz and some would say I have a hard childhood but I would trad sz for all that pain lol

Hardest thing I’ve ever been through. Worst is that like u said many think it’s nothing and all in our minds :joy:

Honestly, lately I’ve started feeling sorry for myself too. There really are some very, very difficult days… I hate the side effects of my medication, and I often feel exhausted and in a shitty mood. Many people see schizophrenia as the worst thing imaginable, which also makes it difficult to find a partner. At the same time, I often can’t even identify my own inner needs, whether that’s due to the medication or the illness itself. I often don’t understand myself and feel unhappy… I’m sorry for venting, but I’m feeling really unhappy today.

I think of what the medication is for to help me gain control. And what would a partner be for in my life? For me, I guess it would be to share our beliefs together celebrate our lives together help each other build each other up better if it’s needed. Have fun together keep each other from being lonely have kids together. I think for me the most important thing I can see is to be financially dependent. And if the medication can help you become financially dependent, that is a big help and if the medication can help you stay in control that’s what it’s purpose is. Nothing’s impossible for me. Personally, you have supported me and helped me gain so much confidence in myself. No one has dared stigmatize me because of my diagnosis with schizophrenia. As being incapable of anything. And if anyone ever would see me as incapable of doing anything because of the diagnosis of schizophrenia it would fascinate me and give me the opportunity to show them what really healthy thinking is. Overcoming this diagnosis of schizophrenia and dealing with the issue of medication is not a dreadful thing for me. It actually is fun and quite amazing for me to overcome this diagnosis and the issue of medication. I honestly think personally for myself I can come to a point where I do not no longer need any medication. But will still have rather different thinking and concepts . @BringMeCoffee

I think it would make things easier if people appreciated just how brutal it is living like this. I get grief from my own psychiatrist for not doing more with my life. I wish people could physically inhabit this life for like 24 hours. I think we’d be judged less if people knew what it actually felt like. I think it’s normal to be a little bitter about being in this situation, at least for a little while

Grief is better than rage. I know this illness isn’t possible without being predisposed but I also had an insane family. It’s difficult not to blame them for how things turned out

OCD is definitely a tough comorbidity to have go along with the sz. It’s a little frustrating seeing how watered down people perception of these things are. Having your sock drawer organized doesn’t make you ocd.

I’m having a headaches bc I can not process my emotional pain.

Also,I’m guilty for being functional, and that’s excuse for people to deny or over exaggerate my illnes, both on different occasions …

Yea…the real thing is like fighting a tiger…they think it’s just a few thoughts and obsessions  the real thing can drive people to take there own lives man..

I’m not on the self pity train anymore but I definitely could have used more understanding in the begining. Either way ..the forum helps a lot

I don’t care that I have schizophrenia. It’s not my defining quality, I care that it’s so goddamn uncomfortable and that it makes it near impossible to do anything with my life. Like I said I’m not looking for pity, I’d just like for people to appreciate how difficult this is. Right now it feels like having two broken legs and having everyone around you screaming at you to stop winning and just climb the stairs. It’s not a fair situation. If I was cured I’d never whinge again lol

Bro…I totally get what you’re saying. Also..I didn’t mean to suggest that you were into self pity but others mentioned it and I was heavy on it a few years ago.

I just wanted to clarify that me personally ..I’m trying to go beyond pity and a victim mentality…again…something that trapped me for years.

But yea… Like you said…people don’t really understand the experience of a faulty mind trying to navigate the world. I legit think more people with mental illness should start communities for support

I heard that a couple times and to be honest I’m definitely down in that whole a bit. The tough thing is the self pity turned into rage and now I just want to get away from my family. It’s just a tough situation. If we were paraplegic people would at least feel a little guilty for shitting all over us lol. Good news is that we’re probably a decade away from finally having real treatments. Ones that actually treat the roots of what’s wrong with us.

I certainly hope to see some better treatments to this shitty condition if I exist at that point. I would even volunteer as a test subject to those new drugs and all, pretty tired of this disease overall.

How long have you had sz? Also…not to sound weird ..but is that avatar a picture of something meaningful?

I have had this illness for a very long time, at times it feels like forever lasting condition. The image/avatar is just profile pic of goddess Kali to give Indian vibes and all. It somehow fits because this diseasr is destruction at the core, of individual life and all that comes with it.
