Hard rock/heavy metal as a coping strategy

Does anyone here struggle to cry and express emotion? I’ve lately found that if I listen to hard rock/heavy metal I get a tiny emotional release. I have really been struggling to feel emotion lately, especially with the start of writing my book.

I will say I was able to cry for like 3-4 minutes last night when my dad called me and I rejected the call. That brought out tears.

How do you all feel emotion when you’re emotionally numb? Anyone have any non-damaging techniques? I am doing my best to stay away from self harm

I love to listen to metal when I’m angry,it helps me release my anger

Usually when I’m numb I would try to watch emotional things, like a really sad movie

Try to switch between a horror movie, a sad movie, a funny movie

It could help if all your emotions are numb

I love metal music but it can be dangerous and you need to be in a good head space, and no thoughts of self harm, cause I love Alice in chains I have seen them live once like 10 years ago and I did not hear one voice at the concert at all. Which is a great thing, I love the song nutshell from Alice in chains but you need to be stable before jamming out to that song check it out if you never heard it hope this helps you a little more
