- Have you smoked weed before you became schizophrenic?
- Yes
- No
I’m just wondering, I believe my schizophrenia was caused by weed usage.
I’m just wondering, I believe my schizophrenia was caused by weed usage.
Reminder: Please keep comments recovery oriented only. Thank you.
What drove you to drink and drugs is probably what caused it…
Weed maybe a contributing factor, but one follows another and what drove you to it was first.
Never smoked cannabis/marijuana in my entire life yet I still developed schizophrenia. The schizophrenia gene is hereditary in my family and therefore extended relatives do have this mental health disorder.
Believe it or not I smoked weed only once during college.
It made me a bit paranoid the following day
Never touched it again since then years ago
Before and after
Life stressors kinda increased my weed usage. Bit of a chicken and egg scenario.
but certainly it was down to stressors or weed or both
I smoked it from 11 to 18
Organic psychosis or self inflicted psychosis both imo need first a predisposition of developing it
Smoked it a lot since 12 or 13 years old. It had an unusual effect on me from the beginning. My brother and his friend would smoke huge spliffs of hydroponic ‘chronic’ and I would stumble upon them in their smoking place and take one hit off the joint and be completely in an altered reality where interacting with people was difficult and would just go off on my own. Often I would have a ‘bad trip’ involving paranoia and frightening delusions. Before first psychosis at 16 I was friends with a 23 year old guy named ‘trip’ who was ok until he smoked weed, but when he did he became psychotic claiming to be the ‘son of god’. He was on disability for schizophrenia I think but from what I saw he only became psychotic when he smoked, but that doesn’t mean he never did any other time. My experience with cannabis intoxication was not uniform throughout life, and there were periods where it was purely euphoric. Generally I tolerated cannabis better when having a higher body weight I think. Anyway, I could probably write thousands of words on my experiences with weed, which honestly was the only drug I ever used besides alcohol. In kind of the subthreshold psychotic thinking states I was usually in I would justify cannabis use with some sort of philosophical kind of word salad, it could be anything, but for example: cannabis is a natural plant with psychoactive compounds and people are animals with synthetic psychorepressive compounds so dialetically in order to take the authentic and nature based strategy in the statistical game that is unfolding in a linear and intersecting set of determinants in an unfolding exustential conflict defined by the intersectionality of natural/authentic with synthetic/ artificial, smoking weed is will result in an ironic eventual victory as the apparent underdog but absolute moral highground…" That’s just a string of words, but that’s the kind if thing that went on in my head.
I wasn’t smoking for a year when I got sick
Its a toxic drug and trigger for anyone with a ‘‘predisposition’’ to develop a psychoses type.
I smoked weed at 15-16 and was originally hospitalized when i was 14
I dont believe for a second that weed causes psychosis 1 in 3 people have tried it supposedly why arent there a MASSIVE amount of people with sz or sza
From age 14 to 19 smoked a ton of it and had some good times . After I got sick at age 19 it was never fun again.
my pdoc told me that you can ascerbate how old you are by doing weed and drugs but it doesn’t cause it…you didn’t do it …it’s not your fault.
I’ve heard smoking marijuana is very bad for schizophrenia. It aggravates symptoms.
Smoked at 15-32 years old.. 7 years clean in janurary
I tried it once after getting SZ and went psychotic and am still psychotic.
Yea…smoked a lot of weed before sz
Yep, smoked quite a bit in high school. Most of my friends were smoking, or had tried it. Then I got to college, and it just hit me different. That feeling of paranoia and stuff, as I’m sure you all know about. So then I stopped for a good 8-9 years. But yeah, off and on throughout life.
