I have no control over my life, Running away

I have no control over my life, forced monthly injections, (I’m on a community treatment order) and if I don’t take the antipsychotics I’m recalled into hospital by force, no control over my money as it’s controlled by social services. The supported living place I live feels like a care home where they are spying on me, they write every conversation I have into their notes, even write down what I’m wearing when I leave. I feel stuck and very powerless. Believe me I have tried to change things through advancey but I’m stuck in the system.

I’m thinking about just booking a flight to Thailand and a 6 month visa in November without telling anybody, using the money I can save until the (£3000) and finding a little house for 6 months. I have £8k in my social services account and I really don’t think they are going to leave me destitute over there.

I lived in India for nearly 9 months some years back so I’m cultured to living abroad. I’m well traveled.

I’ve just had enough of it all and 6 months away with make me take note of my life..

Is this a bad idea?

If you need a break and you’re able to travel. The problem isn’t going away. Maybe you’re just temporarily frustrated. I get that sometimes.

I dont know @bobbilly . From what I recall you had “staff” that always traveled with you before. Based on the fact that your government seems to think you need this assistance and is willing to pay for it, I would suspect you might not be able to live on your own without assistance.

Just my impression.

I suspect that it probably is.

I had a corrupt psychologist who deemed me to lack capacity with my finances, they asked me totally irrelevant questions about house prices and stocks and failed me and this had a huge impact on me and the control they have over me, I asked for a new capacity assessment and all they did was a new psychologist read the old report without even meeting me and stuck to it, so its very hard for me to get another capacity assessment, and capacity means everything, once they deem you lack capacity they take over your life. I’m literally stuck. I lack capacity dispite me going to Sri Lanka 3 times on my own and managing a budget for the month. x 3. and this is even when I had the deputyship in place. There are some good things to having it and I really love my housemates but feel so trapped.

Right now you have a roof over your head and food and money coming in. Maybe you’re not so bad off. How much control would you really have if you moved to a foreign country? Could you live on your own and take care of yourself without the support you’re getting now? In a new place you would have to shop, cook, and clean, do you do that now? If you lived in a foreign country would the U.K. government still sent you benefits? Would they cut you off because you’re able to live on your own in a foreign country? You would be leaving behind all the doctors, psychiatrists, and therapists you see now. You would have to move to a place where there’s doctors available and that might limit your choices of where to live. Where you are now, you have money coming in and you get to take more vacations just yourself then twenty average people do in a lifetime.

Can you get a job in thailamd or do you struggle there

I’m in complete agreement with @77nick77

You need to be able to work to pay your own way and able to cook and clean for yourself before moving away. Getting to travel for 1 month is not the same as being self sufficient. There’s a lot more to consider

I guess I feel like a failure, my sister is embarrassed about me, she hangs around the horsey crowd as she breeds horses, she’s embarrassed because I’m on benefits, I had to tell her would she rather see me on the street, she doesn’t mention it anymore. I agree with 77nick77 I do have a good support network and I’m mostly happy but I would really love to live abroad, going for a month isn’t enough and I feel like I’m wasting my life here. Maybe I can make some something of my life abroad?

Im sure your sister loves you @bobbilly your just panicking about the staff in your house you need to relax, they are there for you and im sure everyone enjoys your company. Chill

id contact a lawyer and try to get them to lobby for less restrictions on you. you need someone to fight for you if you feel trapped. if you have the money, its a better situation that running away i feel

Its hard to fight against the doctors though, like its in black and white legally that he needs care 24/7 and cant even have all his own money. Its a hard one

Well, when you had control of your money you spent it on booze and extra food. Maybe having someone else manage your money is a blessing in disguise, won’t they manage it so you can save it for trips and not waste it?

In AA they call that “doing a geographic” which usually means you’re running from your problems but the thing is that the same problems are going to go with you wherever you go. Changing locations to solve problems usually doesn’t work.

In AA they say, “Wherever you go, there you are.”

Or, “A change of geography doesn’t change you.”

Hey @bobbilly

If I’m being honest here, I don’t control 100% of my finances either.

My brother was appointed that task, to manage my finances.

Right now I’m coherent but if I ever become full blown manic/psychotic again, then what?

It was my father’s wishes to set up a Special Needs Trust Fund for me.

So now my brother is the Trustee

Like @77nick77 said, count it as a blessing that other more capable people are managing your finances

With that said, there is also a whole lot that I do still control financially and otherwise

I’m sure that like me you are still in charge of your destiny in a lot of ways

What is AA?
