I went to my wifes parents for a few hours and it appears there were some questionable threads

while I was leaving and once i left.

Just want to remind people a bit about the rules we need to follow.

On contact outside the forum : We discourage face to face meetups with other members. I am aware that we have no way to enforce this and I have no intention of even trying to control what is done outside the forum. However, if we are going to mean what we say about discouraging it, we cannot have public discussion of these things on the forum. If you really feel like this is something you have to do, keep it to pm. And please be careful. Not everyone is always what they seem to be on the internet.

On alcohol and marijuana : Please keep these in a recovery context. Or like my recent thread, in relation to have they effect medication and such. Discussing how you are going to go on a bender this weekend and get wasted is not recovery oriented and not allowed here. These discussions are not allowed primarily for 2 reasons : 1. We have recovering alcoholics and drug users here. 2. Because there is evidence that marijuana may make symptoms worse or trigger symptoms. And alcohol does not mix well with antipsychotics. We also have decided we will allow discussion of marijuana in relation to medicinal use. This does not mean getting high for fun.

Religious Avatars : Not allowed at the current time. We had one in particular that I brought up in staff and we decided to allow it until someone complained. A few hours later, someone complained and we had to have the person remove it. It is better to not tempt fate and just not go there.

Also a reminder that current event news goes in current affairs category exclusively now, so that those that wish to avoid can mute that category. Please follow the rules in regard to this category as its been updated.

Until we find time to rewrite the rules, we are going by the old rules with the few modifications that have been made. We may be a little more lenient on them but they still apply.

I am trying to make this place a place where suspensions and flags are rare and only when necessary.

I am trying to avoid having suspensions issued for mistakes. But it IS one of the few tools we have to try to correct behavior if we feel rules are being violated deliberately. And we will use them if necessary.

And thank you for reading.

Not one of the threads that got locked today was mine.

I’m losing my edge.

I apologize. I just wasn’t aware of the nature of the rules. I didn’t purposely violate them for some bizarre reason or something.

It’s his fault, really. Visiting with your in-laws makes the universe go sideways. He was warned and should know better.

Thats why I posted our policy. I know not everyone reads through all the rules. They are very long. I figured if I posted the relevant sections with clarifications we can try to get things on track.

I’d like to know if I broke the rules by repeating what my pdoc told me regarding alcohol and APs. I wasn’t trying to encourage others to drink but just now realized that may be what I inadvertently did. For that, I apologize. I was just trying to be neutral and factual about my experience , not trying to say it’s a good idea. Again, my apologies.

It’s fine @Lilyofthevalley . Some things are kind of judgement calls here @Lilyofthevalley . Some things like that are borderline. You were just trying to be factual. I tend to encourage moderators and myself to not be anal about it. As long as people are trying to follow the rules and not deliberately crossing the line we are going to try not to ding people for it.

It’s only when we believe people are aware and still cross the line where we are going to give them some time off to try to correct the issue.

Correction first, flags second, suspensions as a last resort.
