Hello. I have significant negative symptoms that could also be mistaken for medication side effects. How do you manage to live with them, despite everything?
I used to have them.
Not anymore.
I still have them but at the beginning of the illness it was horrible. I’m much better.
I still have to force myself when I do things.
I have a combinations of side-effects, negative symptoms and laziness.
Which drugs are you on?
Cariprazine 6 ,paliperidone palmitate 350 . For the neuroleptics only
Vraylar should help you with negs. Invega can make you tired.
How long was it since you got ill?
Since 2005 .
Ok, that’s a long time ago.
As I said I try to force myself to do things. Isolating yourself will make it worse.
Do you have family? A gf? Do you work out?
Yes, I have some family… Yes, I agree: isolating myself will only make the situation worse. I don’t work and I don’t have a girlfriend. I don’t do any outdoor activities. I’ve started cognitive-behavioral therapy. I struggle to get things done, and I often use my illness as a crutch. Admittedly, it does prevent me from doing a lot of things…
Try to work on those things you can do.
I struggle with motivation and I rarely feel excited about things but I do them anyway. My problem is that I suffer from anxiety that prevents me from doing a lot of things.
I have started working out again and I don’t struggle as much with taking showers, doing the dishes etc. I just need to start cleaning my apartment more so often.
You know my negative symptoms have improved slightly since coming off of the long acting injection. I now realize that the injection made me aggressive and irritable.
I showered today like I use to do
I swapped to clean closes like I use too.
Shaved
Went to the store twice this day.
Walked a mile on my crosstrainer
Did the laundry like I do once weekly
In truth, I have severe anxiety (mainly fear of judgment, I think). For example, if I’m selling a product and the salesperson has to come to my house, I’ll panic. I’ll be afraid they’ll judge me. Once, it happened with a repairman who came with his kid. I felt like his kid hated me and was giving me dirty looks because I’d asked him a question… Schizophrenia is really preventing me from thriving. Do you think I can overcome my fears?
Have you talked to your doc about CBT?
That would be my suggestion.
Is it my negative symptom? I always procrastinate. Still haven’t change bedsheet after six weeks… Also scold by my employer for applying so many leaves.
I was hospitalized in 2017. I was prescribed clomipramine, and my condition improved significantly. However, after two years of taking it, the effects diminished drastically over time. What could explain this? I have tried taking clomipramine again, but it no longer has the same effect it once did. What dietary supplements or other options might be helpful for schizophrenia—specifically for managing low mood, anxiety, and reduced mental sharpness—without the risk of worsening psychotic symptoms?
My best advice are supplements, such as sarcosine and n-acetyl-cysteine, some nootropics, maybe some antidepressants and just forcing yourself even if it is difficult. Oh and maybe strong coffee, exercise and mild meditation and avoiding stress. And maybe and hopefully in not too distant future better drugs will appear which will help with negatives.
