So much ‘Is ADHD a social construct?’ bs. So little about the damage caused by failure to diagnose, and thus not provide much needed help and support. It annoys and upsets me in equal measure. My difficulty organising and planning, prioritising multistep tasks, isn’t an effing ‘social construct’.
ADHD is real and affects people for real… I think if I didn’t have autism and adhd I would be in a better position career wise.
edit: I agree, its bs.
I don’t understand why people can talk down people with brain issues but wouldn’t dare say it about comparable physical issues in seriousness
I’ll probably get a lot of hate, but I don’t think adhd is real.
I think some children do have adhd like symptoms but it’s a brain deformity or vaccines that cause this.
Nowadays everyone is getting dx’d with autism or adhd. Big pharma is laughing to the bank.
I know someone who is a doctor with adhd and even my bro thinks he has it. It’s simply not true. For those with real adhd you would see the behavioural problems present in childhood and adolescence; especially in school. Trouble focusing is a lie.
autism does not necessarily require medications, at least for me. I can’t get adhd meds because im at risk of psychosis. Trouble focusing is a real thing sorry. I did not get very far in school because of it and im sad to say I failed because I tried to plagiarise most the work that required reading books.
also women got missed when it came to diagnosing thats why so many are getting assessed.
For me this was the case but in the 90’s they just treated it as problem behaviour with no regard to the cause
1965- 1975 ‘disorganised and messy’.
I don’t think people should be surprised more people are getting diagnosed
The science is catching up but many are still left behind
A person I knows son was unable to see someone before he left school as list was 3 years in that area
I think it’s a real/genuine medical syndrome or physiological basis concept. Yes, it could be remedied I imagine in some cases, but not everyone is fortunate enough for that to be the case. Eg. Minimal stress, adequate fitness and nutrition on a cellular level (no deficiencies that could be the cause of the ADHD).
My daughter absolutely has ADHD -inattentive type. She really struggles to focus but instead of being hyperactive, she daydreams. Hers is severe enough that it was considered one of her disabilities in school.
I would daydream too because school is so boring
I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child. In third grade.
And quickly I was put on medications
The medications were horrible
They made me not eat.
I regret the whole thing because it was mind-altering to experience the diagnosis and also the medication.
Does she ‘zone out’ ?
My daughter tried a couple non-stimulant treatments but they didn’t help so she tried to deal with it without meds
I think putting 8 year old kids on stimulants because they don’t want to sit in a chair all day doing boring ass math equations is ridiculous
My brother has ADHD
Certain aspects are. Social construct doesn’t refer to the thing itself, but the way it is conceptualized and related to… I mean attention deficit is important to this society due to intensive training/ education and media technologies and institutions. Hyperactivity about the psychopolitics of being calm and thoughtful as a way of maintaining order and control. Disorder is in the same spirit of social control/ societies of control… The way its related to is medicalization of deviance from normality/ disciplinary technologies… also the way behavior and mental states are objectified and put under scrutiny here and now
Imo adhd meds are given like candy too kids who simply have too much energy and i also think its a gateway drug
And the psychosis it causes they should take it off the market
