Surgery tomorrow

Tomorrow is my second knee replacement, this one on the right. I’m a bit nervous because my left leg always, always hurts now whereas it wasn’t like this before the surgery. It’s not my knee that hurts but down my calf and into my ankle and foot. I’ve had it looked at and due to the shooting pains as well as the tingling and numbness in my toes, I’m told it’s likely a back problem. But that’s for the future. Now, I just have to get through tomorrow.

I have to leave the house at 4am! I don’t think I’ll get to sleep tonight. Too much to do, like clear a path in my room that will fit a walker. Too much laundry at the foot of the bed! Lol

Thanks, y’all! I’m more nervous about the drive than anything. It’s a good hour away, and it’s in the city. Scary! The morning ride will be fine, but for the ride home, we could get caught in traffic. I have a lot of anxiety around leaving the house and being in a car.

Good luck @Honeysuckle . My mom just got a knee replacement so I know recovery can be a little rough, but I’m sure it’ll be worth it in the end.

All the best!

How did your surgery go? How was the drive?

Hi Everyone! Thank you for asking! The nurses and staff were absolutely amazing! It made things so much easier. I am barely able to bend my knee right now, and I’m not getting up and walking as much as I should because going up/down the stairs is very intimidating. I can pace lightly in my room, though, or use my Cubii elliptical, or just do the exercises the PT showed me. I’ve mostly been sleeping because of the pain meds. Otherwise, I’m just trying not to be a big baby; it does admittedly hurt a lot, and I don’t have great pain tolerance. Still, I’m so happy it’s done!

My mom JUST got a knee replacement done, and she had to go back in for a manipulation but ended up coming out just fine. She said her physical therapy was very important to keep range of motion and it was painful.

I know the recovery is multiple months, I hope yours goes well!

My surgery was four months ago and I’m just now feeling the full strength of my newly fused joint (left pinky DIP joint). I know it’s not the same as a knee replacement but the recovery time is similar. The anesthesia made food taste funny for about 3 months, glad that’s over.

Best wishes again on your recovery! I hope your physical therapy place isn’t too far away.
