Tonight I took 6.25mg Olanzapine rather than the prescribed 7.5mg.
I’m looking to come down to 5mg Olanzapine again. I did ask my psychiatrist to reduce me to 5mg but he is unhappy to this until we have had our first meeting in a months time.
I know I should wait but I’m keen to see how I feel on a lower dose again. Since I was last on 5mg I came off the medication and relapsed and have been working my way down over the last couple of years. So to be honest I don’t know if my illness has progressed and if I would be able to be fine on that dose again. But guess there’s only one way to find out and that’s to try a lower dose.
Also from what I can gather online it’s unlikely I can get Rexulti proscribed. So waiting for that doesn’t seem to be an option.
Its generally a mistake to reduce by yourself. I would talk to pdoc before reducing further.
My experience is that medicatiion reductions or quitting have a brief honeymoon period and then you can have months or years of sorrow trying to work your way back to stability.
Definitely not going to quit. I know I’d become unwell again and honestly don’t want another experience of psychosis! Yeah get your point. Maybe just have to accept things for how they are. Should at least have the doctors consent and oversight.
Also could be the sertraline having an effect on my labido… but do know it’s the Olanzapine as well as my testicles have become smaller and are less heavy. Sorry if that’s a bit much information
As you said, you should first talk to your doctor, but it seems to me to be a moderate, manageable reduction.
How did you get that dose? So you’re going to take 5 mg tablet, then you’re going to cut a 5 mg tablet in fourths, then you’re going to take one fourth. You’re not going to get an exact dose.
As you said, you should wait to talk to your doctor, but I do think it’s a small reduction so try if you want. Just don’t stop taking the med altogether.
Thanks for your reply. Yeah it’s approximately about a 16.5 percent reduction so not as drastic as going straight down to 5mg which is a bigger step at a 33 percent reduction.
I have about about 3 months supply of 2.5mg Olanzapine. From when I was on 12.5mg about a year and a half ago. Reckon as I’ll be using 2.5 of the 2.5mg pills a day I’ve got about 6 weeks supply roughly
