I notice many food brands are adopting new high protein versions of themselves, including but not limited to pop tarts, ice cream, and even Chipotle’s ingredients. I really don’t see how this can help one lose weight. I’ve read that it serves to suppress hunger without being fat, but my mom seems to think protein on its own “melts” fat, but I’m just not convinced.
I’m just amazed it is trending so well! If I believed in it myself I’d be trying it. Is it the same principle as the old Atkins diet? I thought that was more about restricting carbs.
Most of it isn’t even high protein. They just do it to sell more food. Higher protein is healthy because it has less carbs since most people’s diets are overly carb heavy these days. But adding an extra 1 gram of protein powder to fruit loops or a sugary drink doesn’t make it a “protein” food lol. But they put it on the box because people thinks “oh it says high protein this product must be healthy” when it’s really a candy bar in disguise. Even protein bars aren’t healthy. They’re a chocolate bar with a little protein sprinkled in.
If your a body builder and need a treat and can afford the calories it’s a better option for an indulgent treat. But its certainly not a health food like apples or lean chicken. It’s still junk food in disguise.
I was doing protein shakes for 4 months. A substitute for breakfast. The ones I bought at the grocery store I felt fine then I bought some off Amazon called premier protein, I got cramps so bad that I had to stop protein drinks.
Seems like food fashion for the mind, maybe jumpstarted by marketers or influencers. It is just way to conduct business and sell easy way of eating healthy diet.
I was thinking the other day about how French people eat what they want and never get fat. It’s because they eat in very small portions. In other words, moderation in all things. @POET
