Where do you skimp?

Many of us are struggling financially these days. I’m wondering where you cut corners.

The biggest area we skimp on these days is heating. I am so afraid we are going to get a 5 or 6 hundred dollar bill the first heating bill of the cold months, we set our thermostat to 60 when we sleep and 62 to 64 when we are awake. We just wear warm clothes inside. I would be more comfortable if we could set it at 68 or so.

We have to pay for my wifes condo and association fees and gas and electric until we sell it , as well as the house bills, so we are financial stretched atm.

Underwear. Only wear skimpy underwear. Purely financial reasons.

i usually try to skimp out on food but thats mostly a diet thing like… i have an emergency stash of food but when im low on money i usually try to eat on the cheap, i.e. not buying takeout etc.

Lightbulbs. I hate buying them. I just unscrew one light bulb and transfer it around into various lamps. Until everyone screams at me and hurts my feelings.

i buy cheap clothing now from shein. I used to buy high street brand names but cant afford to do it anymore. i also rarely eat out these days… maybe once a month as opposed to once or twice a week.

i no longer get anything on finance cos it all adds up…

i dont skimp on the heating personally. If it were just me living here i probably would but i dont want the children to feel cold.

I think skimping on heat is a great idea

It kills me how much money my family spends on heating.

I’m going to keep my apartment at 60

I avoid groceries and heating. Heating mainly, because that saves ALOT.

We have almost entirely stopped eating out. It stopped being a good value over a year ago. When we shop for meat we exclusively shop sales or purchase in bulk from a restaurant supplier. We also subscribe to service where we get fresh fruit and veg for cheaper through non-retail channels.

I’ve mostly moved away from name brand clothing, I save a lot by either thrifting clothes or purchasing through TEMU. Their stuff is plenty good enough. I have only spent more on higher end winter clothing and footwear because those are areas where when you cut corners the corners cut back.

I drive a large expensive truck so I am fanatical about driving it as little as possible, I walk to and from the store with a pack as much as I can. Cheaper and better for me. Those short runs add up fast.

For sure groceries for us. Sales and coupons all the way

My husband insists all my needs are met so if I need something, even if I don’t ask for it, he gets it for me. —to his own detriment!

He has lots of needs and refuses to buy himself much needed things like clothes that aren’t tattered etc. if I get them for him oftentimes he’ll send them back.

That said, I never spend money without running it by him first to be sure there’s not an issue I’m not aware of.

Lmao that’s so funny. I’m sure it’s not this extreme but I remember on this show extreme cheapskates there was this woman who has one lightbulb in her entire house I think. I’ll try to find the episode

She also cooks her lasagna in the dishwasher so….

I don’t spend a lot on food before mainly my paycheck goes to clothing I’ve been eyeing.

I’m an overspender.

But I turn my heating off for the apartment and use one electric heater in my room. I live in my bedroom mainly.
