Aripriprazole (Abilify) prolactin sparing?

Pretty much my main concern of Paliperidone 100mg once a month is the blurred vision, high prolactin, low testosterone and sexual dysfunction.

I started 5mg aripriprazole every morning earlier this week to combat Paliperidones prolactin elevation…

I think I may cut off the Paliperidone completely.

5mg aripriprazole a day?

@Zoe you take 2.5mg a day right? I’m mostly asymptomatic so I would like to take a similar dose.

Also I don’t appear to have Parkinsonism from 5mg Aripriprazole either which is weird cos I had tingling back in 2017 but idk what dosage I was on when I took it.

I’m taking 10 mg of abilify for prolactin. I was shooting blanks but back to full working order after a few days on it. That means I don’t have to stop invega

I have high ldl cholesterol and hyperlipidemia on Paliperidone too.

I’m hoping the blurred vision goes away if stop it. I want to see clearly again.

Its best to get that confirmed with pdoc. I take 2.5mg daily of abilify. However our bodies all react a slightly unique way.

2.5 and 5 is an extremely low dose as the only antipsychotic. i think the minimum for sz is supposed to be 10. Or was it 20? I forget. Been awhile since I’ve been on the pills. I get the Minimum Abilify injection. Seems to do the job.

Anywho, best to ask your pdoc what dose you should be on.

I think 10mg is considered minimum dose.

But if Zoe can take 2.5mg then I should be able to too.

I have no delusions and voices are all asleep.

Plus meds never combat the delusions or voices for me. For that I have to mentally manually do things to stay well.

If u check with ur pdoc, its up to him to supervise ur suggestion. Maybe he wud agree 2.5mg is fine. But usually they administer higher doses.

The reason my dose is so small is cos i get delusions rarely n only temporarily, historically speakn.

And its been like that for years.

I only get delusions during psychosis and they linger for like a month afterwards then disappear.

I’m guessing you’ve managed to stay out of hospital for a long time?

I also don’t agree that I have SZA. It’s recurrent brief psychotic disorder.

How frequently have you been getting psychosis? Like once every year? And is that whilst on a standard dose of ap?

The last time i was hospitalised was in 2016.

Idk what your pdoc will say? Have you suggested 5mg yet? He might even say yes but would like to closely monitor u.

Tbh. They only lower my dose after 1 year minimum of no voices n delusions,

Every year pretty much but off meds. I don’t think meds prevent relapse.

I will be keeping a mood and sleep diary and crisis plan.

Plus I know insomnia + being emotional or upset = relapse coming

So crisis plan will keep me safe and away from hospital in future.

Thanks

5mg worked for me and it was working previously before I was taken off it altogether.. then I had to go on a dose of 15mg. went back down to 5mg gradually from 15mg which was prescribed at the hospital in 2020.
