Does the friendzone exist?

So I’m trying to get a date with this girl i work with and I was talking to my friend about it, and he said to be careful as to not be put in the friendzone. And that makes me a bit worried, because I feel like with me and the girl we are friendly to each other, but I feel like I’ve been holding back on showing her interest.

I did ask her to hang out for a coffee this weekend despite her saying beforehand that she would be busy, but she did say that we would deffo catch up in the new year.

Should I do more to show interest? I thought i made my intentions known by asking her to hang out but I dont want it to be a friend thing, I want it to be a date thing. I thought i made my intentions to her clear by asking to hang out but now I’m not sure if she’s aware..

You could offer to pay if you can afford to. That would put it in the date zone

The friend zone doesnt exist.

If someone is rejected romantically and can’t be friends or doesn’t want to feel used then it’s up to them to step back and set boundaries.

The friend zone implies that one is sticking around hoping the person changes their mind about romance.

Test the waters ease into it. Don’t wanna scare her away. I was friends with girls I later dated. If they wanna date you they’ll date you no matter how much time you take. Or she’ll use one of those lady sentences to distance herself. I dated 2 women at work. I wish I didn’t. Everytime we’d break up or have a spat I couldn’t get them out of my life. Then when new women I was interested in would approach me at work they’d always be around. There’s something to be said about having peace at work and having a work wife. There’s a lot of ladies out there. At work really complicated things. When my hours got cut my girlfriend knew and she knew how my job outlook looked for my profession. Soon as that money stopped flowing she got cold as ice. I still bought her things and nothing changed in that regard. She just saw me in a different light. No sex, cold shoulder, creating high pressure talks to break up. Then I had to see her at work acting like little miss princess. Just know what you’re getting into. There’s a lot of ladies in the world. Shooting for convenience can be tricky.

If they say no, cut them off completely outside of work responsibilities.

Wise words @2Waynez. All my girlfriends were from work in the past too. My first girlfriend, we’d have a tumultuous relationship which really messed me up whenever we saw each other at the workplace because I kept breaking up with her because I thought i could manage our different personal circumstances but kept flip flopping out which wasn’t good.ive learned now.

You raise a point about how it can get messy at work. Thing is my work contract ends in March so it’s not too bad. If I play my cards right we could date in after March or something.

I’m not sure how to test the waters exactly. I’m too afraid to show interest.

Just compliment her and see how she takes it. If she compliments you back you’re playing the game.

If you want to ask her out on a date, maybe go and think about the right time to ask and be subtle and appropriate. Maybe like “there’s a concert in town, I was wondering if you would like to see this band, (the band’s name) with me?”
