Self-checkout.
I usually shop at Publix, a grocery store predominately in the Southeast. There are over 900 stores in Florida alone.
The Publix I shop at recently added 8 self-checkouts. This makes no sense to me since Publix is where “shopping is a pleasure.” They charge more, but the stores are clean, the employees are, for the most part, friendly (Publix is the largest employee-owned business in the US). They’ll push your cart to your car and load the groceries into your car if you want (they don’t accept tips).
I spoke to the manager about the self-checkouts. I basically said this: “Publix is where shopping is a pleasure. Publix has been in this lane since 1930. You’ve made a profit every year. You’ve never laid off an employee. You’ve built a relationship with the customer over the last 96 years. Why are you now stepping out of your lane and adding self-checkouts? I think this is one of dumbest decisions a company has made in recent times.”
He said it will “will make the lines shorter.” It will not because seniors (most of the customers) will not use them.
Time will tell.

Food is really quite expensive nowadays, especially good or healthy variety. it just seems counterproductive to save on buying decent food, let alone get malnourished with this illness. But maybe the prices get so high eventually it will be necessary to make bad choices.

My biggest gripe? The cost of energy. Over £40 a week for a small kitchen living room diner! Energy companies deliberately putting people’s well being at risk for an immoral ‘need for greed’. Grocery costs come next. If I spend less than £50 a week I have to pay £7.50 delivery charge.

@firemonkey with Asda i pay £3.95 a month for as many deliveries as I need between a Tuesday and Thursday. It’s called the delivery pass
The spend has to be over £40
They also deliver food with good dates unlike Tesco

Groceries got rised up by their prices after Russia / Ukraine war. The prices now are about 50cents to 4€ more of.

Living paycheck to paycheck here, and with what we make, that shouldn’t be the case. My son helps us so that we can have enough to afford food, but we can’t make it on our own. It’s rough, that’s for sure.

My heel has been hurting for almost a month. My shoulder has been messed up for almost three weeks. I’m ready to heal up so I can go on walks. To imagine all the time without a hurt heel that I took for granted.

That’s just the way it works. It’s easy to forgot about the good times, or even the okay times, until we hit the uncomfortable/bad ones. I’ve always been crazy active… until I wasn’t. Never once thought about what it would be like to lose that but here I am. I think that the best we can do is enjoy each day and whatever we may have in it. Live each day to the fullest, and you’ve done what you can. No regrets looking back.

That’s good. The major minus however is their website. I don’t like it. I’m not saying it’s logical, but I’m very particular when it comes to what I feel OK with using online.

I know it’s not groceries but can I complain about the price of electricity, memory, and RAM?
Xbox Series X launched at 499.99, its price is now raising to 799.99. Same exact system 6 years later. AI has driven component prices so high it’s ridiculous. Not worth it, I want to go back to a world without AI.
Prices for custom computers are also going sky high thanks to RAM costs.
Groceries are also expensive, and most ice cream is frozen dairy dessert now, and most chocolate is “chocolatey” now. Half empty bags of chips are now 5.99, heck it feels like every single item is 6 dollars minimum. Taco Bell only serves chicken now and all fast food costs double what it did just 3 years ago.

Economics is rubbish but we listen to the whole schtick and don’t question it because we are told otherwise.
Like. It’s been proven during things like covid that you give poor people money they spend it in the community. The rich people don’t and they hold onto it all because that is the system…but if your increasing the poor punters wages it’ll lead to inflation.
Wake up. It’s a dumb scam but as a poor person if I start a pyramid scam I’m going to jail but a rich person isn’t because they have access to legal help and I can’t afford it…
It’s totally dumb. It’s totally bogus and don’t ask me about my avocado which was a year ago $1 Aussie pesos is now $2.50 and we had a glut on the market…
It’s a scam but your government which is propped up by lobbyists isn’t changing anytime soon simply because your not thinking…your just helping and that sucks in my opinion simply because it’s 2026 and we have the resources and technology to eradicate poverty with education and desire but the ultra rich are starting their own space programs…Doesn’t that piss you off?
