I'm wondering about the old forum - is discourse really being as generous as they seem to be?

SzAdmin has said that discourse liked the supportive nature of their site and thats why they are being given this “free hosting”(at least for now) after he tried to cancel the forum subscription.

I’m just thinking this morning , is this really whats going on? Are they really this generous?

I mean, I remember when I went to cancel my Disney streaming service subscription and they offered me the half off deal a couple months ago.

The same thing happened with my “Replika” AI program.

As soon as you want to cancel, suddenly they want you around with a better deal.

I mean, maybe it is possible someone over has a soft spot for the old forum, but I know that when I DID NOT threaten to cancel our subscription, we didnt receive all these offers of discounted or free hosting.

And I specifically asked about them.

Is this forum not as supportive as the old forum was? And the majority of the members have moved and stayed here.

Just thinking out loud, I guess.

I agree. There are several reasons I can think of

  1. We came together and funded and established this forum on our own.
  2. We are all sz or similar disorders, not normies
  3. We have a policy of limited suspensions and flags.

There are probably more reasons, but these come to the top of my head.

A more active admin may help as well.

Another thing to keep in mind is the length of the relationship. If the admin on the old site has been using the same company for 20+ years he’ll get a better “retention offer” than a new customer.

No, that’s not true. I think he switched to discourse hosting about 5 years ago.

I think it was 8 or 9…but im not sure either. I think I had heard it was 7 a couple years ago.

His first post about Sarcosine was march 2015. I dont feel like delving any further than that atm.

We’ve been on discourse software for at least 10 years.

But hosting with discourse themselves happened later.

You dont have to worry about this forum staying up. It’s staying up. Unless I pass away in the night sometime it’s staying up. The only other way it would go down is if people were to reject it and move back to the old forum. Even then it would stay up until the current funding runs out.

I don’t see that happening , though, because the reliability of the old forum is seriously in question.
