Poll about storage space

I have been cleaning up uploads threads very quickly in order to stay ahead of the storage space game. I have heard a couple complaints about this. I have been doing it at 250 to 300 posts of of threads with a lot of uploads, like selfie threads. All text only threads remain. So heres a poll to see what you would rather have me do.

Should I
  • Continue on as I have been to keep current server space viable forever
  • Let them get to 1000 posts and then delete, you have enough free time to deal with them in bulk later
  • Leave them for a really long time and just upgrade the server to 150 dollars a month to double storage capacity when the need arises

just as some advice for when I do delete threads. If you dont make the first post an upload, it makes it much easier for me to delete the upload portions of the thread without deleting the text posts.

I think you should keep doing what you’re doing we don’t want to overwhelm you in the future and paying more doesn’t sound too appealing either

For now, immediately delete mega threads with an upload in the first post and recreate them without an upload in the first thread.

There are other discourse providers we could switch to which offer better deals.

Just a reminder that these guys offer 150gb for about $100

We have a lot of extra money to spend might as well use it for something.

I know on the better deals @everhopeful . I have been kind of hesitant to switch to “an off brand”. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Some things that worry me about switching

  1. We may lose our good google search results because it will no longer be affiliated with the website of the actual discourse creators.
  2. They constantly update.
  3. They are the actual creators of discourse. They know what they are doing and the tech support is good.
  4. It’s more complicated to set up and maintain most of the other hosting sites.
  5. WE may lose more people if we try to move again. Everyone is already here.
  6. I could go on honestly. Sometimes its just best to stick with the name brand in my opinion.

thats a good plan, as long as I can catch them quick.

I think you should continue deleting the mega threads at around 250 posts. If it takes you 5 minutes to hard delete each post, it’s going to take about 83 hours (3.5 days) to hard delete 1,000 posts, and if you have to do this for more than one mega thread concurrently, you’re not going to be able to keep up.

Do they sell any software that would enable you to hard delete a thread of 1,000 posts with one or two clicks of the mouse?

@SzSupportAdmin

it doesnt take me 5 minutes to hard delete the post because I can soft delete multiple posts then circle back around and hard delete them……I still have to wait the 5 minutes to delete the post but I can be soft deleting other posts in the thread in the meantime….if you understand my meaning. It probably will take about a little under an hour and a half if I were to have to clean out every post in a 1000 post thread.

No, I contacted discourse about this and they said they had no plans for this. It takes 2 clicks to soft delete and 4 clicks to hard delete.

Hour and a half is too long… you should make the mega threads ( no picture starting ) then delete at 250
