If you don’t actively pursue people you won’t find anyone.

Also I’m single cos I cbb to use dating apps.

I have no energy to speak to women. Or do the chit chat. Or worse go on a date.

Plus for most sz folk we’re not working so that’s off putting for women.

I nearly dated a schizo chick before.

It takes effort to pursue or maintain a relationship.

I feel like women would ask guys to take them on trips out. Restaurants too. I ain’t splashing out with money I don’t have lol.

Forever single is kinda sad but I accept it now.

I’ve had relationships, but the thing is, if you want to find a partner, you need to maintain consistent contact with someone, and in order to meet that person, you have to actually go out and socialize — go into the city, attend events, etc. At least all of my boyfriends were people I met in real life. People I met online and then met in person after some time just weren’t the right fit for me.

I’m in a complicated relationship myself. I consider myself more single than committed. I’d like to be in a serious relationship at the moment, but right now I’m simply going through a period where I don’t really have someone by my side.

Anyway, don’t give up. I think things can change.

For schizophrenic men that do not work and collect disability benefits, normal women will not give an unemployed schizophrenic a chance. What is she to say to her friends & family, ā€œI’m in a relationship with a schizophrenic who doesn’t workā€???

I was in a long-distance relationship/friendship with another Chinese schizophrenic lady. She was located on the East Coast while I was on the West Coast. Long-distance relationships do not work out. Nice lady and all but her parents are divorced which made maintaining a relationship/friendship a bit difficult.

Yes, women do cost money. Maintaining a relationship costs money. For both these reasons I am partially working. Imagine ā€œgetting marriedā€ and have ā€œdependentsā€ or ā€œkidsā€ to take care of or raise and all that costs money.

Up until recently I had accepted the fact that I’d stay single all my life. Managing my sz is just draining too much energy to really give a relationship a chance. Also with the negatives, if they’re bad don’t allow me to even socialize much let alone friendship or a relationship. I said recently though because I came across a woman I liked very much in a support group, unfortunately things didn’t work out and i am with broken heart now. I didn’t now how to approach her and didn’t want to get in her way, when I did there wasn’t anything there. It lingered for a year. I feel annoyed that the feeling of love came back, now I need to accept the fact that I’ll be alone again.

I do agree with the work issue and even more with the stigma associated with the dx. It’s just a major red flag with most women. From what I see it’s less of a problem with women with sz, they seem to have relationships more often.

I believe there was a poll that was completed a few years ago where the results were schizophrenic women tended to be already married or in a relationship with kids or not with a normal man but the schizophrenic men were mostly single. This statistical survey was revealing from the poll taken. Not sure if this poll still exists from the old schizophrenia forum.

I’ve been saying this since i got sick. It’s harder for us guys thanks to all the societal expectations on us, we have to be stable to provide. There are exceptions but the averages seem undeniable.

It’s not impossible for us but it’s difficult.

I’m not mad about it, i just want as many of us (male or female) to have access to healthy relationships.

[Women with schizophrenia are significantly more likely to be married than men with the condition. Across global psychiatric research, a distinct gender disparity exists: men diagnosed with schizophrenia are much more likely to remain single or never marry, while a higher percentage of women manage to date, marry, and have families.

This difference in marital rates is primarily driven by three key factors:

  1. Later Age of Onset. Women typically develop schizophrenia later in life, often in their late twenties to early thirties. This delay gives many women a window of time to complete their education, start careers, establish stable long-term relationships, or marry before the onset of severe symptoms. Men tend to experience their first psychotic episode much earlier, typically in their late teens to early twenties. Because the illness hits during a critical phase of social development, it frequently disrupts their education, early job stability, and initial dating life, making future marriage less statistically common.

  2. Premorbid Social Functioning. Research shows that women with schizophrenia generally maintain better pre-morbid social functioning (social skills and network size before the illness presents) and stronger social cognition than men. Men with the condition often experience poorer pre-morbid social functioning, a smaller social circle, and a higher expression of negative symptoms—such as social withdrawal, lack of motivation, and emotional flattening—which heavily impact the ability to initiate or maintain a romantic partnership.

  3. Community Support and Substance Abuse. Women with the condition are statistically less likely to experience comorbid substance use disorders compared to men. Additionally, cross-cultural studies indicate that women often receive a higher level of family and community support, which protects their long-term social prognosis]–Gemini

I had no problem finding wives online…you guys…it’s not hard to find someone…just be careful in the interviewing mode of the initial relationship…and be honest about your dx.

I’ve had women want to date me but I’m not interested in them. Right away I tell them all my problems to scare them away because I’m not interested and they keep coming back.

Im starting to think the same as you. Ive been single for 4+ years now. I feel like its because i have massive anxiety around women I like as well as feeling too scared to show interest. I dont think its the illness though

@jukebox

Do you have schizophrenia? If so, at what age did you first become symptomatic?

What do you know about my love life? Why do you get all aggro on me and why do you feel the need to show off that you are a seducer?

I’m not showing off…I just know it’s not impossible to be honest about your diagnosis up front and not be successful.

I asked a lot of questions, homie. You didn’t answer any of them.

Btw you are not going to convince anyone that beeing upfront about your dx has better chances to getting you a girlfriend. That conversation should happen later down the road.
