It’s totally okay. You have an opinion and it matters. However it would be best to pm us mods and we will listen. Also like I said you can create a poll so we can get a sense about what you all think. Your opinion matters.
Honestly if we allow those 4 topics above we will just be arguing all the time it would really degrade the forum
Agreed @Rainstorm ,you are right..
there is no reason for anyone to get worked up here. We are just talking things over.
Nothing is going to change until we get a firm grasp on opinions , how it might impact forum and have a discussion in staff.
oops i posted this on the wrong topci
My opinion is that we should probably do similar to other forum in that we dont want anyone encouraging others to go off medications. If you want to talk about your attempts to do so with medical supervision…..that might squeak by. Those are my thoughts on it.
@SzSupportAdmin,will be there enough space for post a selfie?
I have to leave for about an hour but I can reply quickly :
We had one started yesterday but after I made the comment that we should keep it to one selfie per person per month, the user asked me to just delete so that we didnt get spammed.
Since then, I have gotten the permanently delete function enabled on the site that I can use to free up space. This however is a time consuming process, as each post has to be deleted individually.
So the short answer is yes, but I would prefer if people try to just post one a month just so people can show what they look like, and not spam dozens of photos that Im going to have to eventually come back and clean up. We dont need a montage.
Yikes. My understanding was an entire thread could be soft deleted and then permanently deleted.
I’m just asking,I fully understand your obligation and will to to do best for this site.
Copilot says :
Yes — an entire Discourse topic (thread) can be permanently deleted, but only after you’ve enabled canpermanentlydelete on your instance. Once that backend setting is turned on, the GUI will allow full, irreversible deletion of a whole topic.
Here’s how it works in practice:
How to Permanently Delete an Entire Topic (Thread)
- First, the topic must be soft‑deleted
In the GUI:
- Open the topic
- Click the topic admin wrench
- Choose “Delete Topic”
→ This moves it to the trash (soft delete)
At this stage, the topic still exists in the database and can be restored.
- After soft deletion, the GUI will show “Permanently Delete”
Once canpermanentlydelete is enabled (via Rails console or app.yml), you’ll see:
- Open the deleted topic
- Click the wrench menu again
- You’ll now see “Permanently Delete Topic”
Clicking this removes:
- The topic
- All posts
- All revisions
- All uploads associated with those posts
- All likes, flags, logs, and internal references
This is a full, irreversible purge.
Important Notes
• Only admins can do this
Moderators cannot permanently delete unless you’ve granted them elevated permissions.
• The option only appears after soft deletion
If the topic is not in the trash state, the “Permanently Delete” option will not appear.
• Works for topics, posts, and PMs
Once enabled, the same logic applies to:
- Individual posts
- Entire topics
- Private messages (threads)
Summary
| Action | Possible? | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Soft delete a topic | GUI | |
| Permanently delete a topic | GUI (after enabling setting) | |
| Enable permanent deletion | Must be done via Rails console or app.yml |
I think it’s good that we’re not going to allow debate with respect to political or religious perspectives. That mimics what people adhere to at the bar. Connecting and loving each other is so much more important than judging each other’s views.
I also think that we should take a positive stance on lgbtq rights. If we don’t do it then who will? The buck stops here. We’re a community of disabled people. And we know what it’s like to be the other.
I dont know what to tell you @everhopeful . I have tried deleting an entire topic and it gives me a message about posts still being in the topic. I have to delete the contents before I can delete the thread.
I second this. Reddit was chaotic with anti-medication, anti-treatment, and toxic conversation about delusions, making people worse off. I always really appreciated that the Sz forum was very pro-medication, pro-treatment, and recovery oriented in every aspect.
Time to log a support call !
How would the commentariat feel about discussions on cannabis? I mean in a recovery/medicinal sense. I feel like we’re all adults here, and by now, you should know whether or not cannabis is for you. I won’t lose any sleep over anyone who disagrees here, I just thought the fact it was a banned topic on the former site was a bit much lol but if we feel it should be banned here too, I completely understand and won’t bring it up again
I’d say no politics and religion. People just become passive aggressive about it.
Keep the opinions coming. We dont have time to review and respond to everything in this thread at the moment as we are busy with another matter but this thread will definitely be reviewed for ideas on how best to continue. Thanks for all your input.
I think we should not allow posts regarding imminent suicide. Not thoughts of suicide, but imminent suicide. I think many members will find them triggering, and the most helpful thing we can do is post the suicide hotlines.
The issue with religion; it can have protective factors yet risk factors. Varies person to person. I think it can be mentioned casually in context but should not be debated or promoted. Ie: I went to a beautiful church today, but not how my church is the correct church and the rest of you should be sent to the pyre ![]()

But I must echo what @Joker mentioned. I was banned recently because the Mods presumed I was trying to do something, when in fact I was not. Had they run it by me, Id of explained, apologised for any mishap, and then we could have moved on. They looked silly and exposed bias by the time I was done discussing it with them upon my return. So uncalled for and so totalitarian in approach.
But generally Im easy. Ill do whatever Bowens says is best.
