Suggestions for new rules here

I agree with you banjo that people have the right to express their beliefs, but they don’t have the right to express beliefs that others should hold. We are all free to believe what we want. Some religions respect that and others don’t.

As I just said, no?

Nobody deserves to be condemned that’s really my belief. Fundamentally all human beings deserve respect and security

I didn’t mind seeing a lot of photos of one person. BringMeCoffee and others are very photogenic and seeing a lot of them didn’t bother me. It makes the thread get up to a 1000 replies faster maybe but that’s the only drawback to me of a lot of photos.

This is it. I believe that all people are entitled to dignity, safety and respect; regardless of who they are.

So it’s a comparable like reddit forum or the old fashioned forum?

i like the main rules sz admin use to say were to please keep it civil & supportive.

he said that a lot back in the day.

I hope not, that place is a disaster.

This wont be turning into reddit. We are just taking suggestions and opinions to see if we can tweak the rules or change them where they might be able to be improved.

I don’t know if that’s a likely scenario. Politics and religion almost always end up in a debate.

I guess you’d have to draw a hard line between what it means to mention something, and when it turns into a debate.

If someone mentions something, someone else brings up a counter point, when does a debate start?

Also my two cents is to be cautious with religion, because besides it being a hot topic it also spreads like wildfire for delusions.

I think enough people are against the religion and politics thing that I mentioned that it is better not to mess with it and just keep it the same.

I was just thinking that banning things like a buddha as an avatar(sleepoptimistic) or like mentioning that they were doing things for a christian charity(another member on previous forum). That member had to hide the fact that it was related to religion. Things like this seem extreme to me. But I think based on the opposition to the change, its probably best to leave it as is to not rock the boat.

We have a lot of other suggestions in this thread to review and will likely get them discussed in staff over the next few days.

That seems extreme to me too. I may be doing work for a Christian organization in the future and I hadn’t even considered that it may be against the rules to talk about. Maybe it can be discussed later and middle ground can be found.

Thanks for all you’re doing with this new forum @SzSupportAdmin, I know it’s not easy and someone’s feathers will get ruffled, but it’s all an adjustment period.

For ideas like religion and politics I know in philosophy there’s a difference between descriptive and prescriptive. Descriptive you’re just describing something. Prescriptive you’re telling people what’s right and how to live their lives. Good things.

Well , yes. Exactly. Thats pretty much what I was talking about. And I think the old forum loosened up between the time I was a mod, when religion was handled to an extreme and now. Its difficult to find that right balance , I guess.

Thanks @Hemy . We will hopefully find that sweet spot of middle ground eventually.

I agree with you on the suicide angle, @Catman
