1200 calories a day diet

Once again im watching my 600lbs life

With the 1200 calories a day diet the weight just flies off of them

How hard do you think it would be for a 6ft 300 pounds to do it

What food would you have to eat

Egg whites are low calorie, tuna, baked/roasted c boneless skinless chicken, etc. low on carbs. Avoid cheese as it’s high calorie or measure it to properly count calories, avoid high calorie salad dressing- try fresh squeezed lemon juice or a light vinaigrette instead. Veggies without butter,…

The biggest key is to track calories with an app like MyFitnessPal and measure / weigh all your food

Myfitnesspal is a wonderful tool. I will say though 1200 is an extreme diet that many don’t find sustainable. I’m currently losing weight on a calorie deficit but I keep my calories around 1500-1750 and find it much more doable than the 1200 diet

also wanted to add it’s not how fast you can get the weight off, it needs to be sustainable. I did an extreme diet in 2024 and lost 102 pounds in a year, but it wasn’t sustainable. The minute I started eating normal again the weight came back on. Slow and steady. My dietician wants me to lose no more than 1-2 pounds a week to make sure it stays off and doesn’t come back again.

[To maintain a weight of 300 pounds, an individual generally needs to consume approximately 2,700 to 3,500+ calories per day, depending heavily on age, height, sex, and activity level. A rough estimate for maintenance is multiplying body weight by 10–15, meaning 300 lbs 10 (sedentary) to 15 (moderately active) equals 3,000–4,500 calories; however, lower-end estimates often fit better for sedentary individuals.]–AI Overview

I agree with @Hanna_Foxx that 1,200 calories per day is too restrictive. As you can see, if you eat less than 2,700 calories per day you’re going to lose weight.

A person who weighs 600 lbs has to consume about 4,500 calories per day to maintain their weight. That’s why they lose a lot of weight when they’re put on a temporary diet of 1,200 calories. Our bodies are composed of about 50%-70% water, so those people are losing water, and since they weigh twice what you weigh, they’re going to lose about 60-80 lbs of water fairly quickly.

@Fisherman1992

If you consume about 1,750-2,000 calories per day you’re going to lose weight and be able to sustain that diet.

Yes, but that is also considered unhealthy and puts your cells in starvation mode. The second you go above 1200 they will pack weight in like crazy to compensate. Staying at 1500 or above means slower loss, but also slows regain. You’re also not starving as much.

Those people in that show are so obese that they need to lose weight ASAP before a health issue kills them, hence why Dr.Now puts them on a 1200 calories diet. For the majority of people trying to lose weight, going low like 1200 is not a good idea. Like other forum members have said in this thread, its not sustainable.

For me personally, I aim for 1600 to 2000 calories a day to lose weight, for my specific situation.

We have to keep the proportions in mind. For some of those people losing 100 lbs is only about 15% of their body weight (some people weigh more than 600 lbs). That’s the same as a 200 lb person losing 30 lbs. And they do gain the weight right back.

That’s the goal. You can do it!

I think that’s the minimum for an adult male so you’re fine  I wouldn’t go below 1500 though.

Mounjaro controlled my craving else there’s no other way on antipsychotic

You could but its not really recommended to lose weight that fast when you’re 300lbs. Slower weight loss is for most people better. What goes up must come down. So if there’s a huge drop quickly you will usually rebound and eat more.

When you’re getting the surgery that’s ok because it will physically limit your ability to eat. The point of the 1200 calories diet it to get them away from death as soon as possible. At 300 you have some risk factors but your not at deaths doorstep like a 600 lbs person. Therefore it’s not advisable to go on a 1200 calories a day diet.

Weight loss is a marathon. The only reason they recommend 1200 calories is because the person can die immediately. You still have time to lose weight so it’s not necessarily to go that low.

That being said I do think it’s good to follow the TYPE of diet they have on the show. Lots of vegetables and some lean protein.
