I set a boundary at work and I think it's going to back fire

We had a flood at the storage units at work. So people are talking about suing us, but I’ve been tasked with cleaning it up. Well the people are supposed to move their items out on their own but my property manager who is younger than me is not enforcing the rules. And is placing all of the work on me. So people get mad, leave stuff everywhere, there’s one man who sh*ts in all of the toilets back to back, and I have to help them move things out of storage which we’re not supposed to do. Well he wanted me to move this lady’s antique table from the storage unit because and I quote " my other male coworker didn’t feel like doing it." He apologized to me (I guess my other coworker had told him I was upset) and said that he’s always off on Mondays and wouldn’t have agreed to it. But wouldn’t it make sense that if you were off on Mondays you would agree to it on another day. Anyway I went to the regional maintenance manager because my boss is just the property manager and I am the only maintenance person there on site so he doesn’t know anything about the maintenance job. And I asked if this was a normal part of the job? He said no and asked me who said that, then called my property manager. I apologized but I don’t really think I was wrong.

Better to do the right thing for you.

My dad says that for some strange reason I feel guilty though. Must just be conditioning.

The issue is you feel guilty because you went over your bosses head which is typically the wrong thing to do. In your case, I can see why you did it. I’ve done it under extreme circumstances before myself. Try to just own it and move forward.

If you felt like it wasn’t normal to ask you to do that, you were right to ask

I hope they will not give you again a task you shouldn’t do

I would think it’s conditioning that make you feel guilty

But you didn’t do anything wrong, it’s your boss that shouldn’t have gave you this task

I hope not either. I’m thinking about leaving. I’m kind of afraid to go to work for some reason.

It’s because you felt exploited ?
