Therapy will be ending soon

Was told on Friday that therapy will be ending soon. I question how much good it’s done. It’s come across strongly, the expectation of stressful events produced to order. The reality? It’s not like that. There can be several OK weeks, and then something unexpectedly triggers me. Avoidance as part and parcel of the traumatic experience. The things you avoided, as much as the overt emotional reactions.

How are you firemonkey? So therapy hasnt really helped you much? Same here.

Not at my best, but it’s only 6.51am here.I needed the help over 50 years ago. It’s a case of learning to live with the effects of that negligence, rather than fixing things.

Coming to terms with things that can’t be changed is a big part of finding some kind of peace, IMO @firemonkey .

Most of us waste a big part of our lives dwelling on regrets and wishing things that cant be changed were different.

I think the key is doing the best with what you do have and can change.

Easier said than done, I know, but I believe there is some wisdom in that advice.

It’s too bad most of us(including me) dont fully embrace that concept until later in life.

It’s hard to let go of stuff. But holding onto and struggling against the unchangeable is like trying to dig out of steel box with a plastic spoon.

Was this with NHS?

If so mine ended abruptly as well

We did not do anything of use

She got me dx with ASD then cut me loose because it was not her specialty

This is despite her promising that an assessment would inform her treatment of me

I think it’s the lack of accountability/abdication of responsibility that gets to me. Although what you say is true, and I do try to put that into practice, I just wish guilty parties were honest enough to have admitted that they effed up.

Yes ,with NHS.

I got the impression the service from psychology in NHS is diluted to work down the waiting list

Know here I had to wait two years

My 1st school in Thailand saw that there were problems. On their advice I was tested in London for the ‘S’ word. The result was negative. Other possibilities weren’t tested for. This was c1962. As a child & teenager I was physically and socially awkward, disorganised & messy, had slow & poor handwriting, great difficulty constructing things.

I did well at school until the :poop: hit the fan-belt executive dysfunction wise. There was no help back then for people like me. Autism back then was a very narrow dx for children with very severe difficulties. My gripe was the non recognition of the learning & other difficulties that I had. I considered autism for the 1st time at the turn of the century. I got a dx nearly 2 decades later!

I regret listening to her

It’s made me more inward as protection from people taking the literal piss out of me

After she cut me off I was left unpicking everything for a few months before my brain settled down again
