My 1st school in Thailand saw that there were problems. On their advice I was tested in London for the ‘S’ word. The result was negative. Other possibilities weren’t tested for. This was c1962. As a child & teenager I was physically and socially awkward, disorganised & messy, had slow & poor handwriting, great difficulty constructing things.
I did well at school until the 
hit the fan-belt executive dysfunction wise. There was no help back then for people like me. Autism back then was a very narrow dx for children with very severe difficulties. My gripe was the non recognition of the learning & other difficulties that I had. I considered autism for the 1st time at the turn of the century. I got a dx nearly 2 decades later!
