Thinking of starting an extreme diet

My parents have been on this diet for 2 years and I watched them both get insanely healthier. Their blood work was coming back great, they talked about this energy that they have. My dad has lost 70 and my mom lost 10(she now 135 pounds nothing more to lose)

I tried the diet briefly last year and ultimately I didn’t have enough discipline. I missed sweets and cakes and ice cream way too much and then I just said IDGAF and gained weight so much last year.

So I’m gonna start this diet. Anyone want to throw in a guess of what I’m going to be doing? I’m doing it as a 90 day challenge

And I should add, I’m not going on this diet to stop my meds. I don’t plan on going off my meds

Probably something that is unsustainable in the long term. :frowning:

You have a good point there. My parents have been on it for over 2 years. I don’t know how long I’m gonna do it for but I know I have about 120 pounds to lose

I switched to the Mediterranean Diet and Clean Eating over a couple of years. I had AI make a list of problem foods and alternate foods to switch with.

Crisps > cucumber slices
Crackers > tomato slices
Carmel popcorn > long thin carrot shavings tossed in warmed honey

Crave one, eat the other. After a while the craving flips. Once the craving flips from the old item to the new I move onto the next thing on the list. It’s slow, but if you replace habits one at a time you don’t go crazy with missing everything at once.

I had to go to Dollarama today to pick up cat box deodorizer (cheapest there). The store is packed with stuff I used to love and impuse buy. Ramen noodles, crisps, licorce. Now I skip past it going EW EW EW with my inside voice and look forward to cucumber slices with fresh made hummus at home instead.

That’s how I did it.

Is it a fad diet? Fad diets don’t usually work for long term weight loss.. I seem to remember you were on a diet last year that was very unhealthy and triggered your eating disorder? Is this that same diet?

If you want to diet, the Mediterranean Diet is usually at the top of the lists of best diets. You lose weight on it while eating healthy and there’s a nice variety of food and you can download many Mediterranean Diet recipes. I got a good book that has Mediterranean Diet recipes for feeding one person.

I’m going to try the carnivore diet again just for 90 days then I’ll reassess

If you want white starches, cook and cool potatoes first. This converts the starches in them into resistant starches that your system has more trouble breaking down. Lower glycemic index, even when heated again. The theory doesn’t work with potato chips, however. Most of the food value is cooked out.

Well, I would take advantage of modern day media and research the pros and cons of the carnivore diet on the internet. I read some very bad things about how unhealthy it is for you and how it’s even dangerous for some people.

I’ve seen many different articles and studies on the keto diet and the carnivore diet. It’s mixed reviews. I have super high insulin resistance and I need to heal my metabolism

My cardiologist was impressed when I was doing the carnivore diet at how well my POTS responded

I’m not here to argue, I’m just simply saying I’m going to be trying this diet again for a short time and see how it goes

That’s an interesting article @77nick77 I think it makes sense that there are pros and cons of any diet

Wishing you luck with it. I’m just kind of concerned because it is very expensive and you have posted frequently about money issues as well. Worried for you some.

(((hugs)))

well I wish you success in losing weight…it’s not easy I know…I used to weigh 355 and it took me almost eight years but by just eating less each day I am down under 200 pounds now…not much under 200 but it is possible.

I tried it and it was horrible for me I gained weight on it. It’s the diet I tried last. Now I’m on a diet where I allow myself unlimited vegetables and one full meal a day and I’m losing weight like crazy. Not to discourage you but just saying carnivore didn’t work for me.

It’s likely if you have ED and intense food cravings and impulses etc. an extreme diet will not work well for you and just diminish your health as you need veg for nutrition and carbs to some degree because ultimately all cells run on glucose. I think you can lose weight and be healthy but it requires sticking to a varied diet, eating only fixed amounts at set meal times and nothing else really except maybe low calorie snacks like cucumber carrots celery tomato and hummus.

I only eat 3 meals a day and no snacks, just drinking water, tea and coffee now throughout the day. Breakfast is always oatmeal with a spoonful of peanut butter with some apple sauce. For lunch and dinner I’ve been eating a bowl of food. Currently it’s navy beans, barley and mixed vegetable heated in microwave. I put a small spoon if margarine on it. I have eaten that for a couple days until the beans and barley i cooked run out. Then I will switch the protein and carb.

Good luck with the carnivore diet @Hanna_Foxx

Keep us posted on your progress.

I have been keto since 2019 and I still feel really good on it. No cravings. However, it doesn’t do the job i need it to do for my mental health so I stay on my medication.

I briefly tried the carnivore diet last year but oddly enough it made me gain weight so I switched back to keto.

Mash a banana and freeze it. Thats your ice-cream. Get almond-flour (a nut) and mix with full fat butter and a little honey. Thats your cookies.

My wife has most success with Keto/Atkins. Better energy and sleep, health improved, lost some weight .etc
